About Join

Join is a venture-backed technology company built for the construction industry, and the leading platform for preconstruction and design phase management. Founded in 2017, Join is backed by investors in the built environment, including WND Ventures (DPR Construction’s venture arm), STO Building Group, Building Ventures, and Ironspring Ventures. More than 1,000 companies use Join today, including 25 of the ENR Top 50 general contractors. Owners, contractors, and design teams collaborate across thousands of projects on Join, aligning early so hospitals, labs, data centers, and schools get built faster and better. More than half our team comes from the industry we serve, from firms like Clark, DPR, and Hensel Phelps. They work alongside technology leaders from Google X, Autodesk, Workday, and Palantir.

The role

You’ll be our first dedicated finance hire and the only person who owns the numbers and audits, and contributes critically to the plan. Today the books live in QuickBooks Online and Bill.com, and the accounting is straightforward — the opportunity is to take a working setup and build it into a finance function that can carry us through audits, diligence, and the next stage of growth.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll be deeply involved in all aspects of our reporting, working with an outsourced then turn around and walk the board through what the numbers mean. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll be the person we rely on for an honest read on cash, burn, and where the business actually stands.

What you’ll own

Close & reporting

  • Own month-end and year-end close with support from outsourced vendors
  • Produce monthly GAAP financials with variance commentary
  • Maintain the chart of accounts, accruals, and reconciliation discipline
  • Manage relationship with external accounting firm. Review their work product for accuracy, ask the right diligence questions, and be internal check on all outputs.

Audit & compliance

  • Serve as primary point of contact for our financial statement audit
  • Own the finance and access-control evidence for our SOC 2 audit, serving as primary point of contact with support from internal technical teams
  • Manage federal, state, and local tax filings with outside advisors, including multi-state nexus

Treasury & AP/AR

  • Cash positioning, banking relationships, and runway visibility
  • Run AP through Bill.com; own collections and AR aging
  • Lookahead cashflow forecasting

Planning & board reporting

  • Own the operating budget and rolling forecast
  • Own monthly Budget vs. Actual (BVA) reporting across all departments, including variance commentary and vendor-mapping discipline.
  • Own and maintain company’s financial/operating model: headcount, budget, and forecast scenarios, partnering with department leaders.
  • Own core SaaS metrics (MRR, ARR, NRR/churn, CAC, unit economics) and cohort-level analysis to inform pricing, packaging, and go-to-market decisions.
  • Build the board reporting package and the metrics behind it

Business operations

  • Entity registrations, business insurance, and vendor/contract administration
  • Own the finance systems stack and improve it as we scale
  • Own insource/outsource decisions and vendor relationships around financial operations

What we’re looking for

  • 6+ years in accounting, ideally mixing public accounting with a startup or SaaS operating role
  • B2B SaaS background
  • Fluent in SaaS revenue recognition and metrics (ARR, GRR, NRR, etc).
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong technical footing: GAAP, accruals, revenue recognition (ASC 606), financial statement prep
  • You’ve been through an audit from the company side, not just the firm side
  • Fluent in QuickBooks Online; comfortable improving or migrating systems
  • Comfortable being the only finance person in the room — you find problems before they surface and build the process that prevents them
  • Clear communicator who can explain financial detail to a non-finance audience

Nice to have

  • Prior SOC 2 experience
  • Experience supporting a fundraise diligence process
